Summer Reading Tails and Tales 2021

Join us for a fun-filled, animal-themed, Tails and Tales Summer! 


We will have Summer Reading Challenges for Children ages birth-7th grade, Teens ages 7th-12th grade, and Adults 19+! Registration goes live online starting Tuesday, June 1 using Beanstack for all Summer Reading Challenges https://williamsoncounty.beanstack.org

Beanstack is an online logging system that helps to keep you keep track of your reading and optional activities within the registered challenges you do along the way with the WCPLS Library System.  Beanstack is available in a web version or mobile app to download from your devices app store or google play.

Once you have reached your reading milestones in your summer challenges you are welcome to stop in your home branch to pick up your prizes. Prizes will need to be picked up in person from your home library branch. Ticket drawings for the Children and Teen activity side prizes will take place after summer reading has ended and winners will be notified directly by library staff. 

The deadline for picking up prizes in person is Tuesday, August 31.

Children Summer Reading Challenge 

Ages: Birth-7th graders

Registration goes live online starting Tuesday, June 1 using Beanstack https://williamsoncounty.beanstack.org

  • Register for Childrens Summer Reading Challenge in Beanstack and earn a digital badge and sonic coupons
  • Log 5 hours of reading earns a digital badge along with an animal bookmark and pencil from the 5-hour treasure box
  • Log 10 hours of reading earns a digital badge along with a choice of one fun animal item from our 10-hour treasure box
  • Log 20 hours of reading earns a digital badge for completion and a FREE book
  • In addition, for 1st-8th graders who complete 20 hours of reading they will receive a Read and Win ribbon and their names will be put into a special drawing for a possibility to win a free ticket to the Williamson County Fair held this August. Winners will be notified directly
  •  For the optional activity side to our challenge, readers can earn digital badges that come with tickets. Tickets earned from completing the activities can be put toward the chance to win one of our fun special prizes

Teen Summer Reading Challenge

Ages: 7th-12th Graders 

Registration goes live online starting Tuesday, June 1 using Beanstack https://williamsoncounty.beanstack.org

  • Register for Teen Summer Reading Challenge in Beanstack and earn a digital badge and sonic coupons
  • Log 5 hours of reading earns a digital badge along with a coloring bookmark
  • Log 10 hours of reading earns a digital badge along with your choice of one fruit and veggie stress ball or reusable metal drinking straw
  • Log 20 hours of reading earns a digital badge for completion and a FREE book
  • In addition, for 1st-8th graders who complete 20 hours of reading they will receive a Read and Win ribbon and their names will be put into a special drawing for a possibility to win a free ticket to the Williamson County Fair held this August. Winners will be notified directly.

Adult Summer Reading Challenge 

Ages: 19 +

Registration goes live online starting Tuesday, June 1 using Beanstack https://williamsoncounty.beanstack.org

  • Register for Adult Summer Reading Challenge in Beanstack and earn a digital badge and sonic coupons
  • Read 10 hours for a pair of earbuds, and 25 hours to earn a free book
  • Write a book review to earn a novelty animal pen. The top 20 most prolific reviewers will earn a metal feather pen and journal to keep the writing going
  • Complete fun activities like library programs and promotions, citizen science animal tracking, and animal scavenger hunts. The 25 most active participants will receive a pocket flashlight or booklight.
  • Earn tickets in addition that can be put toward drawings for the larger prizes
  • Drawing prizes include two camping lanterns, a hammock for relaxing outdoors, and 9 different book sets

More Performer details are coming soon! We will have a mixed variety of performers this year some will virtually be recorded by WC-TV and others will be Zoom calls with Chattanooga Zoo and the Elephant Sanctuary. Some classic performers like Bob Tarter, Jacob Johnson, Bruce Amato's Magic show and Magic class, ...  Ventriloquist Jill Thatcher will bring us a fun animal-themed puppet video show with an additional video craft show.
