Lineage Organizations: Your Family and Their History

Have you ever thought about joining a lineage, or heritage, organization that reflects the historic events, historical periods, and family groups of your ancestors? This class is for anyone interested in learning about or pursuing membership in lineage societies. You may have heard of the big-name organizations such as DAR, SAR, Mayflower, and Jamestowne Society, e.g., but there's so much more. Come and hear about the hundreds of organizations celebrating historic events, historical periods, and ancestral families.  Local genealogy expert, Deborah Peercy, will present this program. Space is limited and registration is required.

Alzheimer's Caregivers Support Group

Caring for a person with dementia requires different techniques than those needed to care for someone who is not cognitively impaired. Alzheimer’s Association support groups encourage attendees to share information, give and receive mutual support and exchange coping skills. Attendees can offer practical suggestions based on their own experiences that may make caregiving easier. Sharing those ideas in a support group can prevent caregivers from “reinventing the wheel.”

Our Caregivers Support Group is free and facilitated by a trained Alzheimer’s Association volunteer. We meet at 10 a.m. the 2nd Friday every month in the Learning Center on the 2nd floor. Registration not required.

Read with Sadie

Kids ages 6-12 are invited to come read with Sadie, a trained therapy dog. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Attendance is limited and registration is required. Sign up all children who will be reading individually to assure they each have time to interact with Sadie and read. Registration begins December 8.

Family visit with Santa at Franklin Library

Join us for a family visit with Santa! Space is limited in each session time slot and registration is required. Parents, please have your camera or phone ready for pictures. After visiting with Santa, stay for special Christmas-themed crafts!

Jr. Chess Club Tournament

Put your Chess skills to the test in a friendly Chess competition at the Main Library. Each student will play 4 games, win or lose. Fun will be had by all. Ages 6-12, registration is required.

The BackYARNians - Teens' Crochet & Knit Club

For ages 12 to 18. Practice your skills and make new friends. All levels are welcome; there will be more experienced knitters and crocheters who can help get you started. We will have a supply of yarn available, if you don’t have any. Bring either US size 10 knitting needle (also known as 6 mm needles) or a size H crochet hook (also known as a 5 mm).
