Volunteer Roles
Duties that may be performed by a volunteer:
- Assisting with the Summer Reading Program
- Book and library item repair and maintenance
- Helping with programs and projects
- Light cleaning assignments
- Organizing newspaper and periodical collection, including the display of current issues
- Shelf Reading – making sure materials are in order
- Shelving books and Audio Visual (AV) material
- Special events
Examples of Volunteer Tasks by Department
Administration
- File photocopied articles
- Maintain the Information Desk in the downstairs rotunda
- Special projects as needed
- Straighten information flyers at the desk
Children’s Department
- Assist with displays
- Assist with special programs- crafts for programs, puppet shows, pajama storytime
- General clean-up of reading area and straightening the department
- Special projects as needed
- Straighten and shelve books, paperbacks, movies, audiobooks and periodicals
Circulation
- Sort paperback donations and mark with property stamp
- Special projects as needed
- Straighten and shelve books, paperbacks, movies, audiobooks and periodicals
Reference
- Assist staff with computer classes
- Assist with Displays
- Assist with special events and programs, such as handing out income tax forms
- File clippings for the vertical file
- Shifting Projects
- Straighten and put away books, periodicals, and newspapers
- Straighten Shelves
Special Collections
- Clip newspaper articles for the vertical file

Technical Services
- Add property stamps to new materials
